ABOUT ME
About
I'm Ray, a tech enthusiast, Linux hobbyist, and developer from Florida. I like figuring out how systems work by running them, changing things, and fixing what breaks.
Much of my experience comes from maintaining my own machines and writing software for things I actually use. Sometimes that's a small script to automate a task; other times it's a hardware project or changes to an open-source tool.
PC hardware, gaming, and emulation give me plenty of reasons to tinker. My projects range from an Arduino system monitor to controller tools and Linux improvements for software I use.
What I use
My Homelab
I run and maintain a homelab built around a Fedora Linux server and a mix of Linux and Windows machines. It's where I host things I use every day and experiment with my own infrastructure. I enjoy the upkeep: troubleshooting problems, automating routine tasks, and improving the setup over time.
Networking
I manage DNS and DHCP with dnsmasq, use Caddy as a reverse proxy with local domains, and connect remotely through WireGuard. Managing my own network also gives me hands-on experience with cybersecurity and access control.
Services
My Fedora server hosts Plex, file shares, and self-hosted applications. Uptime Kuma and ntfy help me keep track of service health and get notifications when something needs attention.
Virtualization
I run virtual machines alongside my Linux and Windows systems. Maintaining them gives me room to try different setups and work through system and network administration problems.
Backups
I automate backups with Borgmatic and rclone. I also maintain a Debian-based backup server designed to take over DNS, DHCP, and other services if the main server is unavailable.
Some of my tools and experiments are on the Projects page ↗.
